What your customers see at checkout
Updated October 2, 2026
Knowing the checkout helps you support customers and set things up well. Here's the journey, top to bottom.
- Choose how to get it. Pickup or Delivery. For pickup, Takeaway or Dine in.
- Choose a time. As soon as possible, or a scheduled slot. See How scheduled orders and lead times work.
- Review the items. Customers can change quantities and see each customization.
- Add a note. A free-text box for things like allergies or extra napkins. It reaches your kitchen with the order.
- Enter a promo code, if they have one, and click Apply. See Offer a discount for ordering direct.
- Choose a tip. Your three tip buttons, or a custom percentage. See Configure tip presets.
- Pay. With a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay if Square is connected, or Pay at counter for pickup.
- Land on the tracking page. See What customers see after they order.
The total is calculated on our servers
Prices, discounts, taxes and tips are calculated on our servers when the order is placed, not trusted from the customer's browser, so they can't be tampered with.
Tip: Place a test order yourself so you've seen this exactly as a customer does. See Place a test order.
