Choose your map style

Updated October 2, 2026

Your site shows a map of where you are: in the location section, on the contact layout and in the banner at the top of your menu. By default it's a standard Google map. You can switch to a free custom-styled map that suits your brand, with no accounts or keys to set up.

Pick a style

  1. Open Design in the sidebar and find the Map panel.
  2. Click a style: Google (the default), Classic, Bold, Light, Dark, Slate, Sand, Sage or Rose.
  3. The first time you pick a style, we look up your address and place a pin there. A preview of the real map appears below.
  4. Choose a zoom: Close for a single street, Standard for the neighbourhood, or Wide for the surrounding area.
  5. Click Publish in the top bar so your site updates.

Which style suits you?

  • Classic and Bold: colourful street maps that make roads and landmarks easy to read.
  • Light: a clean, quiet map that lets your own colours stand out.
  • Dark: a night-mode look for moody or modern cafés.
  • Slate: a muted blue for a calm, professional feel.
  • Sand, Sage and Rose: soft tinted maps in warm, green and pink tones that sit nicely beside most branding.

Tip: Click through a few styles and check the preview. It shows exactly what visitors will see.

How visitors use the map

The map never traps visitors while they scroll your page. On a computer they hold Ctrl (or ⌘ on a Mac) and scroll to zoom. On a phone they use two fingers. A small credit to OpenFreeMap and OpenStreetMap stays in the corner, as their free licence requires.

If you change your address

The pin is placed for the address you had when you picked the style. If you later change your address in Settings, the Map panel tells you the pin is out of date, and your site shows the standard Google map until you fix it:

  1. Open Design and find Map.
  2. Click Update pin to my address.
  3. Click Publish.

If something isn't right

  • "We couldn't find that address": open Settings and make sure your address includes the street, city and state. See Update your café profile.
  • The pin is in the wrong place: correct the address in Settings, then click Update pin to my address.
  • The map shows Google even though you picked a style: you may not have published yet. See Publish your website.
  • The map doesn't load for a visitor: the site shows the Google map instead, so there's never an empty box.

Note: Switching back to Google at any time restores the original map.
