Set up SEO and social sharing

Updated October 2, 2026

SEO is how Google decides what to show when someone searches for you. Open SEO & Settings in the sidebar.

Set each page's search listing

  1. Choose a page, for example your home page or menu.
  2. Write a Meta title. Aim for 60 characters or fewer.
  3. Write a Meta description. Aim for 160 characters or fewer.
  4. Watch the Google result preview as you type to see your listing.
  5. Save and publish.

Good titles include your café name and your town, for example "Bloom Café | Brunch in Austin".

Site-wide settings

  • Keywords: comma-separated words that describe you.
  • Sitemap: switch on so search engines can find every page.
  • robots.txt: controls whether search engines may index you. Turn indexing off while your site is a work in progress, then back on when you're ready to be found.

Social card preview

This shows how your link looks when it's shared in iMessage, Slack or social media. It uses your title and description plus a photo from your menu.

Warning: If your site isn't appearing in Google at all, check that search engine indexing hasn't been left off.

Next step

Make sure customers can also find you on Google Maps. See Show up on Google.
